When Elena Marsh walked the halls of ASFG in the early 2000s, she never imagined she'd one day be leading a pediatric surgery team at a major children's hospital. Now, over fifteen years into her medical career, Elena credits much of her drive and discipline to the foundation she built during her school years.
"ASFG taught me that hard work and curiosity go hand in hand," Elena recalls. "I remember spending hours in the science labs, completely absorbed in experiments. That sense of wonder never really left me."
After graduating, Elena pursued a degree in biology before attending medical school, eventually specializing in pediatric surgery. Today, she leads a team that performs life-changing procedures for children, and she's also passionate about mentoring young women interested in STEM careers.
"There weren't many women in my surgical training program," she says. "I want the next generation of ASFG students to know that any path is open to them, regardless of what the room looks like when they walk in."
Elena remains closely connected to the school community, occasionally returning to speak with science students and offering guidance to those considering careers in medicine. Her story is a reminder of the impact an ASFG education can have long after graduation.
"I wouldn't be where I am without the teachers who pushed me to ask bigger questions," she adds. "That's something I try to pass on every single day."
